Claude has five plans, and the price is only half the comparison. What changes between them is how much you can use it, which models you get, whether Claude Code is included, and what an administrator can control. This guide compares all five and ends with how to choose, for a person and for a company.

Prices and limits are from Anthropic's pricing page and help center, checked on 12 October 2026. Prices are in US dollars; Anthropic shows local-currency prices in some countries but publishes no EUR price list. If you pay per token through the API instead, see Claude API pricing.

Team Standard and Premium seats can be mixed in one organisation, so only the people who need more usage pay for it.

Usage limits: what you actually get

Anthropic does not publish a number of messages per plan. Every plan resets on a rolling five-hour session window, and paid plans also have a weekly limit across all models. How far a session stretches depends on the model, the length of the conversation and the tools used: a long Claude Code session that reads large files uses far more than a few chat questions.

What Anthropic does publish is how the plans compare:

PlanUsage per session
FreeBaseline
ProAt least 5x Free
Max 5x5x Pro
Max 20x20x Pro
Team Standard1.25x Pro
Team Premium6.25x Pro

Three details matter in practice:

  • One pool for everything. Chat on web, desktop and mobile, Claude Code and Cowork all draw from the same allowance.
  • Team limits are per person. A quiet colleague's unused allowance does not carry over to a busy one.
  • Usage credits fill the gap. Pro and Max users can turn on pay-as-you-go usage at API rates, with an optional monthly cap; Team admins can enable prepaid credits for members.

EnterpriseAll models, billed at API rates

Fable 5.1 is Anthropic's most capable model and the most expensive one, which is why it is rationed on every flat-price plan. For most work, Opus 5.5 is the better default; our guide to choosing a Claude model explains when Fable is worth it.

On paid plans, the current models (Fable 5.1, Opus 5.5, Sonnet 5.5 and Haiku 5.5) have a 1 million token context window in chat.

The API credits are new (October 2026). They cover the API, Managed Agents and the Agent SDK, not Claude Code or extra usage in the apps, and they expire at the end of each month.

Claude Pro vs Max

Pro at $20 is enough for most individuals: chat most days, some Claude Code, a few hours of agent work with breaks. Developers who run Claude Code for a full working day hit Pro's session limit and are better off on Max.

Choose Max 5x ($100) when Claude Code is part of your daily work, and Max 20x ($200) when you run several sessions in parallel or work in very large codebases. Max also includes Fable within the weekly limit, priority access at peak times and monthly API credits, which Pro does not. Our Claude Code pricing guide compares subscriptions with paying per token.

Claude Team

Team is the plan for groups of 2 to 150 people. It adds what a person does not need but an organisation does:

  • Central billing and seats, Standard ($25, or $20 annually) or Premium ($125, or $100 annually), mixed as needed.
  • SSO and domain verification, connector administration, usage analytics and organisation-wide instructions.
  • Shared Projects and org-wide Skills, so a team works from the same material and procedures.
  • No training on your data by default.
  • Spend caps per organisation and per member.

Team is paid by card only, with no invoicing. Above 150 seats, Anthropic points you to Enterprise.

Claude Enterprise

Enterprise changed shape in 2026. It is no longer a custom-priced bundle: you pay $20 per seat per month, billed annually, and all usage at API rates on top. There are no per-seat usage limits; administrators set spend limits per organisation or per user instead. The self-serve minimum is 20 seats; contracts from 50 seats can be invoiced in other currencies.

On top of Team, Enterprise adds:

  • SCIM provisioning, audit logs and a Compliance API
  • Custom data retention and customer-managed encryption keys
  • A HIPAA-ready offering with a business associate agreement
  • Network-level access control and IP allowlisting
  • Usage-based billing for every model, Fable included

Because usage is billed at API rates, an Enterprise bill scales with how much people actually use Claude. That is fair, and also harder to predict: budget per team, and set spend limits from day one.

Data, privacy and the EU

  • Training. Team, Enterprise and the API do not train on your data by default. On Free, Pro and Max, training happens only if the user turns on the Model Improvement setting.
  • Data residency. The only residency option in Anthropic's own plans is US-only inference, on usage-based Enterprise, at 1.1 times API rates. Anthropic's documentation shows no EU residency option for its plans as of October 2026.

For European companies, that last point often decides the question. The usual routes to EU processing are Claude through a cloud provider's EU region, or a gateway that runs in your own EU tenant and gives employees Claude there. Our page on Claude in the EU explains the options.

Claude for a whole company

Plans are priced per person, but a company's real questions are about the whole organisation: which models each team may use, what a month of agent work will cost, where data is processed, and whether people also need GPT, Gemini or Mistral for some jobs.

Walma AI Hub gives every employee Claude, GPT and other models through one gateway hosted in your own EU region, with per-team model access, budgets and a full audit log, and with the same skills and MCP connections for everyone. See how it works, or book a 20-minute walkthrough below.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Claude cost?+

Claude Free is $0. Claude Pro is $20 a month, or $17 a month billed annually. Claude Max is $100 a month (5x Pro usage) or $200 a month (20x), monthly only. Claude Team is $25 per Standard seat or $125 per Premium seat a month ($20 and $100 billed annually), for 2 to 150 seats. Claude Enterprise is $20 per seat a month billed annually, plus all usage at API rates.

How much does Claude Enterprise cost?+

Claude Enterprise costs $20 per seat per month, billed annually, and every bit of usage is billed on top at API rates; the seat fee includes no usage. The self-serve minimum is 20 seats (card or ACH, USD); sales-assisted contracts start at 50 seats and can be invoiced in other currencies. It is also sold through AWS Marketplace. Older seat-based Enterprise contracts move to this model at renewal.

What is the difference between Claude Pro and Max?+

Usage and models. Max 5x gives five times Pro's usage per session and Max 20x twenty times. Max also includes Claude Fable (up to half of the weekly limit), which Pro users can only reach through paid usage credits, plus priority access at peak times and monthly API credits of $100 or $200.

Is Claude Code included in Claude Pro?+

Yes. Claude Code is included in Pro, Max, every Team seat (Standard and Premium) and Enterprise. It is not included in the Free plan. Chat, desktop, mobile, Claude Code and Cowork all draw from the same usage pool.

What are Claude's usage limits?+

Every plan has a rolling five-hour session limit, and paid plans also have a weekly limit across all models. Anthropic publishes multipliers rather than message counts: Pro is at least 5x Free, Max is 5x or 20x Pro, Team Standard is 1.25x Pro and Team Premium 6.25x Pro. Team limits are per member, not pooled. When you hit a limit you can wait for the reset or buy usage credits at API rates.

Does Anthropic train on my Claude conversations?+

On Team, Enterprise, Education and the API, your data is not used for training by default. On Free, Pro and Max, chats are used for training only if you turn on the Model Improvement setting (or a chat is flagged for a safety review); incognito chats are never used.

Can Claude keep data in the EU?+

Not through Anthropic's own plans, as far as Anthropic's documentation shows in October 2026: the only in-product residency option is US-only inference on usage-based Enterprise. Companies that need EU processing typically run Claude through a cloud provider's EU region or a gateway hosted in the EU.
